RESOLUTION
Recognizing
Georgia State University College of Law student Cliff Williams.
WHEREAS,
Cliff is currently a third year law student at Georgia University College of
Law; and
WHEREAS,
Cliff worked as an intern with the Georgia Innocence Project, which is an
organization founded in 2002 by two Georgia State University College of Law
alumni; and
WHEREAS,
Cliff led the effort to free wrongfully imprisoned Pete Williams, who was
incarcerated for nearly 22 years; and
WHEREAS,
Cliff spent months researching and exchanging letters with Mr. Williams and
ultimately found the evidence used at trial that ultimately exonerated Mr.
Williams; and
WHEREAS,
Cliff persuaded the judge to order DNA tests and anxiously awaited the results
that came two months later, which concluded that Mr. Williams´s DNA did not
match the DNA found at the crime scene; and
WHEREAS,
upon graduation, Cliff is interested in pursuing a career in criminal defense,
beginning in a public defender's office in Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Cliff Williams for his dedication and devotion to
justice.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Cliff
Williams.
