A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Bob and Mary Addison and their family for hosting the Wild Hog Supper; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, since the mid-1950́s, the Addison family has annually prepared the Wild Hog Supper marking the opening of the Georgia General Assembly in Atlanta, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the Wild Hog Supper is designed to be a great political family homecoming and social event and is looked forward to with much anticipation by hundreds of people each year, including former and present members of the Georgia General Assembly and Governors of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, this tradition was conceived on the banks of the Ocmulgee River in the mid-1950's when E.C. "Boo" Addison invited then Agriculture Commissioner Phil Campbell, Jr. on a camping trip; as Campbell was eating Boo's barbeque, he expressed a wish that his buddies in Atlanta could share the culinary experience; the following year, Boo brought several hogs up to Atlanta and held a supper at the Henry Grady Hotel on the Sunday before the opening of the Georgia General Assembly; and

WHEREAS, each year thereafter, Boo Addison oversaw the preparation of the supper without fail until he passed away in 2000; and

WHEREAS, since his fatheŕs passing, Bob Addison and his sons continue the beloved tradition of preparing the Wild Hog Supper at their home in Wilcox County and transporting the now more than six pit-cooked hogs and more than 40 gallons of brunswick stew to Atlanta each year on the eve of the legislative session; and

WHEREAS, 2006 marked the 44th annual Wild Hog Supper, an extraordinary event celebrating the coming together of Georgians for the good of Georgians; and

WHEREAS, the dedication and hard work of this family is greatly appreciated by so many and is an inspiration to all who serve in the Georgia General Assembly.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Bob Addison and his family for hosting the Wild Hog Supper and for providing a unique opportunity for celebrating our political freedoms and inspiring fellowship among those who come together to serve the people of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Bob and Mary Addison.
