The Senate Information Office is a non-partisan office which provides its services and its expertise to all Senators on a first come, first serve basis. The goal of the Senate Information Office is to serve as an effective conduit between Senators and the public, primarily through the news media across the state.

The Senate Information Office offers the following services:

  • News releases and advisories on Senator's legislative activities;

  • Daily and weekly reports for use by Senators as "talking points";

  • Broadcast services for radio broadcasts on a daily basis, during the Session;

  • Post Session report following the legislative Session.

NEWS RELEASES:
Senate Information maintains a complete data base of media outlets: radio, television, and newspapers. These media outlets are categorized according to Senate Districts, in order to provide complete communication between each Senator and his or her constituents.

News releases are initiated by an individual Senator communicating to Senate Information the subject matter and timing of the release. Because of the heavy demand on Senate Information during the Session, please allow as much time as possible for preparation and dissemination of any news release. Senate Information can not, due to Senate Rules and the non partisan nature of the office, provide news releases which are critical of another member of the legislature, or the Lt.. Governor.

SESSION ACTIVITIES: During the Session, Senate Information provides both daily and weekly reports of legislative highlights. In addition, a two minute radio broadcast is produced every legislative day. When a particular Senator is featured on the program, the broadcast media in his or her district are specifically notified.

NEWSPAPER CLIPPING SERVICE: Senate Information provides a newspaper clipping service for Senators. These "clips" are gleaned from publications to which Senate Information subscribes, and from the daily and weekly newspapers which are members of the Georgia Press Association. Each time a Senator is mentioned in conjunction with his or her legislative duties, the clippings are sent to Senate Information and placed in the Senator's file. The clips are given to the Senators during the Session, and Session clips will be provided in the fourth quarter.

Additionally, Senate Information maintains biographies and photo files on each Senator. Biographies are updated twice yearly, or upon request. Photo files include the picture used to identify members of the General Assembly, and other photographs taken during the Session.

NEWS CONFERENCES / PUBLIC HEARINGS: When appropriate, Senate Information will arrange news conferences. It will also issue advisories on public hearings and work with Senate Research and other offices to arrange those forums.
