Senate Resolution

A RESOLUTION
Commending and congratulating City of Albany Mayor-elect
Willie Adams, Jr.; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the City of Albany, its citizens, and the State of Georgia are proud to call Dr.
Willie Adams, Jr., Mayor of Albany, Georgia;
and
WHEREAS, Tuesday, February 10, 2004,
Albany´s voters chose Dr. Adams to be their next Mayor;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Adams attended Florida A&M
University and was president of the Student Government Association and an Alpha
Kappa Mu Honor Society member; and
WHEREAS, he
attended Meharry Medical College, the largest private, comprehensive,
historically black institution for educating health professionals and scientists
in the United States; and
WHEREAS, he performed his
residency at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, under the Emory
University School of Medicine; and
WHEREAS, Dr.
Adams is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a
Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a member of the
Governor´s Council on Maternal and Infant Care, and is on the board of
directors of the Southwest Georgia Health System Agency;
and
WHEREAS, he has served his community as chief
of surgery at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, founder and director of First
National Bank of South Georgia, cochairperson of the Social Services and Health
Task Force, vice chairperson of the Dougherty County Board of Education, member
of the advisory board for the Salvation Army, and a member of Shiloh Baptist
Church; and WHEREAS, he is married to the love of his
life, the beautiful former Constance Erylene Lee, and together they share four
devoted children: Valerie Denise Adams-Cruel, Vanessa Darlene Adams, Veronica
Diahann Adams-Christian, and Vincent Dewayne Adams;
and
WHEREAS, Mayor Adams has demonstrated decades
of service to the City of Albany and continues that service as newly elected
Mayor.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE
that the members of this body commend City of Albany Mayor-elect Willie Adams,
Jr., for his many years of selfless dedication to his community, congratulate
him on his historic victory, and express to him sincerest best wishes for the
future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary
of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this
resolution to City of Albany Mayor-elect Willie Adams, Jr.
