A RESOLUTION

Commending Sarah McClain Badger; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Sarah McClain Badger is a treasured senior member of the McClain family from Claxton, Georgia, and Evans County where she was born on May 9, 1909, on a farm in the area owned by her parents, Sally and Colton McClain; and

WHEREAS, her father was a deacon in the Philadelphia Baptist Church and her mother was the Mother of the Church which was the focus of much of her early family life; and

WHEREAS, Sarah married Grady Slater of Liberty County with whom she reared six children, known today as Mrs. Evelyn Bacon, Mrs. Melrose Jackson, Mr. Felton Slater, Mrs. Sarah Williams, Mr. Roosevelt Slater, and Mr. James Slater; and

WHEREAS, Grady Slater was tragically killed in a sawmill explosion on December 17, 1934, in Liberty County, and Sara later moved to Evans County after her father's property was purchased by the federal government for the Fort Stewart Army Base at Hinesville; and

WHEREAS, Sarah married James Badger in 1936 and reared eight children, known today as Mrs. Flossie Norman, Mr. Moses James Badger, Jr., Mr. Ernest R. Badger, Mrs. Ernestine Badger, Mrs. Jewel Hayward, Mrs. Anne Grace Badger, Mr. Willie Ed Badger, and Mrs. Katherine Sapp; and the family lost two children who died at birth; and

WHEREAS, Sara Badger persevered through difficult economic times and has witnessed many social changes and challenges during her long life; and her positive attitude and wonderful spirit serve as an inspiration to all who have had the good fortune to know her.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body commends Sarah McClain Badger on her remarkable life and conveys to her its admiration, respect, and best wishes for continued health and happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Sarah McClain Badger.
