SENATOR RUSTY PAUL

Rusty Paul was first elected to the Senate in 2000 with governmental experience at the local, state and national levels and a private sector background in marketing. As Senator from the 40th District, Senator Paul represents part of Alpharetta, Atlanta (Buckhead), Roswell, Sandy Springs and other north Fulton County communities.

Besides representing the metro Atlanta district, Senator Paul serves on the Senate Transportation, Veterans & Consumer Affairs, State & Local Governmental Operations and Special Judiciary committees.

Before his election, Senator Paul served two terms as chairman of the Georgia Republican Party from 1995-1999, also serving on the Republican National Committee's executive committee and as a chairman of the State Chairman's Advisory Board.

He joined the Bush administration in 1989 in the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development, ultimately confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Assistant Secretary for Congressional & Intergovernmental Relations. He also served as acting Assistant Secretary of Community Planning & Development.

In 1977, he was elected to the first of four terms to the Stone Mountain city council, being elected by his fellow city council members as mayor pro tempore in his final term. He served two terms on the Georgia Municipal Association board of directors and as a member of the Association's transportation committee.

Senator Paul own iSquared Communications/PR Prose, Inc., a Sandy Springs corporate marketing, advertising and public relations firm. Married to the former Jan Foran, he is the father of five children, Katie, Russ, Lauren, Emily and Andrew. The family attends Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Sandy Springs, where the Senator is a lay leader and Jan is on the vestry.
