Biographical Information
DAVID A. SCOTT

Senator David Scott was born in Aynor, South Carolina In 1946. He attended elementary school in Scranton, Pennsylvania; Jr. High School in Scarsdale, New York; and High School in Daytona Beach, Florida.

David Scott received his BA degree from Florida A&M University with honors in 1967. He received his MBA degree from the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with honors in 1969. .

Political Career

David Scott was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1974. After serving 8 years in the House, he was then elected to the Senate in 1982, where he continues to serve. He has served in the Georgia Legislature for the past 25 years.

Senator Scott is chairman of the powerful Rules Committee. The Rules Committee determines which bills get to the Senate floor for debate. Senator Scott also serves on the Appropriations, Education, Reapportionment, and Banking and Finance Committees in the Senate. He is also Chairman of the Atlanta-Fulton Senate Delegation.

State Laws authored by Senator David Scott

The State law that requires the observance of a moment of silence for reflection and prayer at the start of each school day in all of Georgia's public schools

The State law requiring background checks before gun purchases, and making it a felony for anyone to knowlingly sell or provide a firearm to a minor

The State law restricting the number of landfills in residential areas

The State law mandating the teaching of Sex Education and AIDS prevention in Georgia's public schools to curb teen pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases

The State law that gives breast cancer patients the right to have their physicians determine their length of stay in the hospital and the type of medical treatment they receive, rather than the insurance company making those decisions

Senator Scott also spearheaded appropriations legislation to increase the budget for the prevention and treatment of breast cancer, prostate cancer, hypertension, strokes, and diabetes

Senator Scott has also authored numerous education reform measures. He currently serves on the Governor's Education Reform Commission

Business Career

David Scott is the owner and Chief Executive Officer of Dayn-Mark Advertising Company. Established in 1979, Dayn-Mark Advertising is a full-service advertising agency, which creates, produces and places radio, television and print advertising

His creative work for Dayn-Mark Advertising has earned numerous awards, including:

Four Emmy awards for the PBS production entitled "Langston!" a tribute to the poetry of Langston Hughes

Silver Microphone Award and the NAACP's James Weldon Johnson Award for "Inside Black America" radio program

Army Print and Telly Broadcast Awards for the Dayn-Mark Advertising's marketing and advertising corporate campaigns

company's broadcast and print advertising can be seen in leading national publications such as Ebony, Fortune, Jet, Black Enterprise, Upscale, USA Today, Atlanta Journal Constitution, and heard over local and national radio and television stations.

PERSONAL

Senator Scott is married to the former Alfredia Aaron. The have two daughters, Dayna and Marcye.

Senator Scott is a Brother in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity (Beta Nu, Fla. A&M University) and the 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Incorporated.
