Biographical Information
SUSAN CABLE Senator, District 27

Senator Susan W. Cable, a Republican, was elected to the Georgia State Senate in 1998. She is a member of the Agriculture; Higher Education; Insurance and Labor; and Special Judiciary Committees.

Cable has been a community leader in Bibb County for more than 20 years. A former art teacher, she became involved in public service as a dedicated parent concerned about her children's education.

Senator Cable was elected to the Bibb County School Board in 1988 and served as President before stepping down in 1996. Her efforts in the community also include the founding of United Parents for Excellence in Education, a local and national board position on Parents for Public Schools, an appointment by U.S. Congressman Saxby Chambliss (R-GA, 8) to the Georgia School Advisory Panel, and an appointment to the Georgia School Improvement Panel by Governor Zell Miller and State School Superintendent Linda Schrenko.

Senator Cable has also represented this district as an executive committee member of the Bibb County Republican Party and as an alternate delegate to the 1992 National Republican Convention.

Additionally, she is a member of the Georgia Business Forum and an alumna, and former Trustee of Leadership Georgia and Leadership Macon. Senator Cable serves on the Macon 2000 Education Partnership and served on the State Pre-K Curriculum Advisory Committee.

She has been recognized with many distinctions and honors. She received the 1997 National Association for Community Leadership Award, which was presented only to two other persons in Georgia; the Leadership Macon Robert F. Hatcher Distinguished Leadership Alumni Award; the Parents for Public Schools Golden Apple Award; and, the Macon Outstanding Republican Award.

Senator Cable is a graduate of Mercer University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree, and she is a former art teacher within the Bibb County School System. She resides in Macon, Georgia where her family has lived for more than 30 years. She and her husband, Paul A. Cable, have been married for 26 years. They have two daughters, Mrs. Payton Cable Churchwell, and Betsy.

The family have been members of the First Presbyterian Church in Macon for 25 years.
