A RESOLUTION
Commending Walton Goggins; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Walton Goggins, a 1989 graduate
of Lithia Springs High School and former resident of Douglas County, Georgia,
has been awarded Hollywood's highest honor, an Oscar, in the short film, live
action category; and
WHEREAS, this talented actor
not only acted in the Oscar-winning film, "The Accountant," parts of which were
filmed in Douglas County, but was also one of its producers;
and
WHEREAS, from the age of 12, when he walked
into the office of a casting agent, he knew he wanted to be an actor and by 19
was headed for Hollywood; and
WHEREAS, he has
appeared in numerous films including "The Apostle," "Shanghai Noon," and
"Major League III," as well as a number of television series and movies
including "NYPD Blue," "JAG," "In the Heat of the Night," and "Beyond the
Prairie: The True Story of Laura Ingalls Wilder;"
and
WHEREAS, currently he is playing a Los Angeles
police officer in a new highly acclaimed television drama, "The Shield," on the
FX network; and
WHEREAS, his mother, Janet Long,
still resides in Douglas County; and
WHEREAS, this
award-winning actor, who credits his success to hard work, tenacity, and
focusing his energy in one direction, acknowledges that Lithia Springs is his
home and part of who he is and that he is very thankful to have come from the
South.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE
OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Walton Goggins on his
distinguished acting career and on his Academy
Award.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the
House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate
copy of this resolution to Walton Goggins.
