                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending Gwen Odom; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 2  WHEREAS, Gwen Odom began her distinguished career of public 
  1- 3  service on January 1, 1969, when she became Evans County Tax 
  1- 4  Commissioner; and 
 
  1- 5  WHEREAS, the citizens of Evans County have so appreciated 
  1- 6  her efficiency, accuracy, and fairness as Tax Commissioner 
  1- 7  that the county voters have elected her to eight consecutive 
  1- 8  terms; and 
 
  1- 9  WHEREAS, she ran unopposed after her first election; and 
 
  1-10  WHEREAS, she is retiring on February 29, 2000, after more 
  1-11  than 31 years of dedicated and faithful service; and 
 
  1-12  WHEREAS, she has been an active and energetic member of the 
  1-13  Bull Creek Baptist Church since 1944, serving as treasurer 
  1-14  of the church for many years, and as secretary treasurer and 
  1-15  as member of the finance committee of the Tattnall-Evans 
  1-16  Association of Baptist Churches; and 
 
  1-17  WHEREAS, she was instrumental in organizing the Evans County 
  1-18  Chapter of the American Heart Association in 1990; and 
 
  1-19  WHEREAS, she is known for her generosity with her time, 
  1-20  talent, and enthusiasm for charitable organizations in the 
  1-21  Claxton area; and 
 
  1-22  WHEREAS, her many friends know her as a compassionate 
  1-23  person, always ready to help when there is sickness, 
  1-24  trouble, or concern in a family; and 
 
  1-25  WHEREAS, she has been recognized with many awards, including 
  1-26  the City and County Civic Award for Exemplary Role in 
  1-27  Community Life in 1980, and the Woman of Achievement Award 
  1-28  from the Business and Professional Women's Club. 
 
  1-29  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-30  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Gwen 
  1-31  Odom as an excellent public servant and extend sincere 
  1-32  wishes for a happy retirement.

  2- 1  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2- 2  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
