                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Recognizing and commending the very distinguished Dr. Curtis 
  1- 2  G. Hames; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, Dr. Curtis G. Hames has achieved international 
  1- 4  recognition in the field of medical science and received 
  1- 5  distinctions and honors attained by few for his excellent 
  1- 6  medical research and writing; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, this eminent cardiologist is a native of Claxton, 
  1- 8  Georgia; received his medical degree from the University of 
  1- 9  Georgia; and completed postgraduate study in cardiology at 
  1-10  Harvard Medical School, Columbia University, and the 
  1-11  University of Michigan; and 
 
  1-12  WHEREAS, although he began his private practice in Claxton 
  1-13  in 1947, his commitment to improve the quality of rural 
  1-14  health care, to advance his knowledge and ability as a 
  1-15  practitioner, and to deliver excellent medical service to 
  1-16  the community he served resulted in extensive study abroad 
  1-17  as a researcher and as a guest lecturer at major 
  1-18  universities; and 
 
  1-19  WHEREAS, numerous awards and honors have been bestowed on 
  1-20  this very modest physician who has influenced so 
  1-21  significantly the quality of life in Georgia and in 
  1-22  third-world countries as well; and 
 
  1-23  WHEREAS, he is a Fellow in the Royal Society of Medicine; a 
  1-24  Fellow in the American College of Cardiology and the Council 
  1-25  on Epidemiology of the American Heart Association; a member 
  1-26  of the National Academy of Science, Institute of Medicine; a 
  1-27  member of various research consortia concerned with 
  1-28  cardiovascular diseases and their treatment; and the 
  1-29  Chairman of the Evans County Board of Health since 1947. 
 
  1-30  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the 
  1-31  members of this body recognize and commend the very 
  1-32  distinguished physician, Dr. Curtis G. Hames, for his 
  1-33  exemplary public service in Georgia and internationally, and 
  1-34  convey to him their utmost respect and appreciation for his 
  1-35  achievements and dedication.

  2- 1  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is 
  2- 2  authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of
