                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Code Section 21-3-105 of the Official Code of 
  1- 2  Georgia Annotated, relating to notice of intent of write-in 
  1- 3  candidates, so as to require that notice of a write-in 
  1- 4  candidacy be provided no later than seven days after the 
  1- 5  close of the municipal qualifying period; to repeal 
  1- 6  conflicting laws; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 7       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1- 8                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1- 9  Code Section 21-3-105 of the Official Code of Georgia 
  1-10  Annotated, relating to notice of intent of write-in 
  1-11  candidates, is amended by striking subsection (a) and 
  1-12  inserting in lieu thereof the following: 
 
  1-13    "(a) In a general or special municipal election, no person 
  1-14    elected on a write-in vote shall be eligible to hold 
  1-15    office unless notice of his or her intention of candidacy 
  1-16    was given 20 or more days prior to the election no later 
  1-17    than seven days after the deadline for filing a notice of 
  1-18    candidacy as prescribed in subsection (a) of Code Section 
  1-19    21-3-91 by the person to be a write-in candidate or by 
  1-20    some other person or group of persons qualified to vote in 
  1-21    the election, to the mayor or the superintendent as 
  1-22    defined in paragraph (31) of Code Section 21-3-2 of the 
  1-23    municipality and by publication in the official gazette of 
  1-24    the municipality holding the election." 
 
  1-25                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-26  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
