A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Expressing sympathy at the loss of Al DeWitt; and for other
1- 2 purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, Al DeWitt was an outstanding member of his
1- 4 community who contributed immensely to the personal
1- 5 development and quality of life of countless young people in
1- 6 Effingham County; and
1- 7 WHEREAS, he served his country with honor and dedication as
1- 8 a member of the U.S. Navy, later returned to his native
1- 9 community where he married and established a family, and he
1-10 developed an independent insurance business; and
1-11 WHEREAS, he was an active member of the business community,
1-12 served as the past president of the Effingham Chamber of
1-13 Commerce and the Optimist Club, and was a member of the
1-14 Exchange Club; and
1-15 WHEREAS, in 1976, he founded Sonlight Ministries and formed
1-16 a musical group of college and high school students with
1-17 singing talent who travel the state providing a musical show
1-18 that includes vocal selections from religious, gospel, pop,
1-19 and patriotic music; and
1-20 WHEREAS, during the 20 year period that Al DeWitt has
1-21 directed Sonlight, countless individuals and communities
1-22 have been influenced by the values, beliefs, and devotion of
1-23 the hundreds of young people who have participated in this
1-24 special musical group; and
1-25 WHEREAS, the tremendous involvement and commitment
1-26 demonstrated by Al DeWitt toward the personal and spiritual
1-27 development of the youth of Effingham County serve as a
1-28 model for others to follow and merit the highest praise.
1-29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-30 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express deep
1-31 regret at the passing of Al DeWitt of Effingham County and
1-32 convey their sincerest sympathy to the members of his
1-33 family.
1-34 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
1-35 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an

2- 2 DeWitt.
