A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending the members and coaches of the victorious Taylor
1- 2 Road Middle School's Academic Bowl team; and for other
1- 3 purposes.
1- 4 WHEREAS, a team from Fulton County's Taylor Road Middle
1- 5 School, coached by Jody Marine and Beth Vennerstrom,
1- 6 outscored all others to win the 1996 state final of the
1- 7 Academic Bowl competition, sponsored by the Professional
1- 8 Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Foundation; and
1- 9 WHEREAS, the talented students who formed this winning team
1-10 are: Katie Compton, Kristin Keranen, Mimi Park, John Petrie,
1-11 Jon Morales, Amit Ranade, and Justin Rykowski; and
1-12 WHEREAS, over 200 parents and supporters cheered the Taylor
1-13 Road Middle School team to victory, and the members received
1-14 their trophies and ribbons from Miss Georgia, Rachel
1-15 English; and
1-16 WHEREAS, the Academic Bowl features teams of middle school
1-17 students fielding questions on a wide range of subjects from
1-18 the Georgia Middle School Curriculum; and
1-19 WHEREAS, statewide, more than 5,000 students join in local
1-20 school competitions held annually which this year involved a
1-21 record number of students who competed in ten regional
1-22 Academic Bowl contests; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Barbara Christmas, PAGE's executive vice-president,
1-24 had these congratulatory words to say to the students and
1-25 coaches: "PAGE is proud to sponsor this event, which brings
1-26 out the best in our students, schools, and communities, and
1-27 puts the spotlight on the academic achievements of our
1-28 students. We especially salute the coaches for their hours
1-29 of hard work in preparing their teams and the parents who
1-30 joined us at each of the competition sights in underscoring
1-31 the importance of learning."
1-32 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-33 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the
1-34 members and coaches of the victorious Taylor Road Middle
1-35 School's Academic Bowl team and all participants in the 1996
1-36 Academic Bowl competitions.
